Tips on securing appliances in your home if you plan to be away for a while:

• Empty the refrigerator, turn it off and open the door.
• If you prefer to leave the frig on, remove all items which

can spoil and add items like bottles of water to retain the cold
and help the unit use less energy, but turn off the ice maker.
• Put 2-3 tbsp. of vegetable oil in the dishwasher to keep

the seals moist. Do not latch the door.
• Also. put vegetable oil in the garbage disposal to prevent

TIP OF THE DAY

If you need to clean dust and mildew from the vinyl siding on your home, before you rent a pressure washer, try Windex Outdoor Window and Surface. It works great with very little effort. Hook it to a hose and you're half way done. Remember you need not remove the screens just spray over them as well as the windows and siding and then rinse and you're finished. I'm a seasoned citizen and normally have to hire someone to do many of my outdoor chores but this is a task I don't hesitate to attack. This product gets a gold star from me!
